Cracks & All

Cracks and All is an idea. The idea that we, as humans, are not perfect. We are not photoshopped beings, we are not computers, we are beautifully flawed. As living humans we should embrace that and celebrate life, Cracks and All. The cover photo shows the broken egg, crushed but still proud and elevated upon the pedestal. It was a relaxing concept that made the recording of the album a loose and positive experience . The idea that the music doesn't have to strive for perfection, just to be what it is and full of it's own unique cracks. The fun and flow of those sessions, brought in some amazing people to come and play on different songs. Some of Seattle' s great players had immense contributions. Percussionist, Chris Monroe with some mesmerizing brush snare work. Dave Pascal with his voluptuous upright Bass. Erin McNamee and her angelic support vocals. Pete Remine with his melodic skills across and on the board. Davee C powering the drums. Evan Mosher on flugelhorn and the talented Terry Lauber playing Pedal Steel Guitar on Angels. The album was recorded and mixed over a period of 15 months at Dubtrain Studios in West Seattle. The songs Cover a wide range of musical styles, from solo piano all the way to pop punk ala the Clash or the Kinks and feature all kinds of tempos and dynamics in between. The song order was designed to fit together as a full listening experience. The title song, Cracks and All, kicks off the album in a 3/4 waltz time as it begins the journey with a sound like Sergeant Pepper as he is dining out in an Italian restaurant with an accordion wielding monkey perched on his shoulder. The album finishes out with Waterfall of Heartaches, a stripped down, emotional piano accompaniment which segues into an instrumental reprise of the song Submarine Canyon from early on in the album.
