Untangle The Threads

Sami Hope spent her formative years playing the clarinet in school jazz and orchestral ensembles and at musical summer camps, including two summers at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she learned that the best way to improve at anything is to work with people much more talented than yourself. At age 14 she began vocal lessons but did not truly find her sound until she began writing with the banjo in her junior year of college. The years of studying performance and music theory, particularly jazz, shapes the sounds she uses for song writing. She likes thinking outside the box and pushing the boundaries of what you might expect from a banjo-fueled singer-songwriter. She hopes to bring something new and unique to the music scene. In her last year of college, Sami Hope met producer Alfred Goodrich, whose guidance helped to strengthen Sami's already unique song writing. For three years they collaborated with some of Alfred's talented musician friends, taking her musical vision and her vocal and banjo blueprints to create full-band versions of her songs for Untangle the Threads, her first studio album. The music that colored in these blueprints drew on an even wider range of Sami's musical influences and listening favorites. She likes mixing several genres within one song, and her music now shows shades of the blues, hard rock, grunge, reggae, hip-hop, Irish folk, classic rock, alternative rock, and world music. All Sami needs to be happy are sweet eastern polyrhythms and harmonies, psychedelic atmospheric elements, and some crunchy guitars over a funky bass line. At times her musical collaboration reflects this.
