1980 年4 月、デンマーク、スウェーデンと滞在していたウォーン･マーシュ、レッド･ミッチェル･コンビが18 日、19 日にはストックホルムのクラブ、Faschingで演奏。素晴らしい記録が復活しました。

無駄な音がないDuo とはまさにこのこと。息のあったメロディ感覚満点の演奏は、ドラムがいない、ということも忘れさせる豊穣さを感じさせます。おそらくは、相手方の世界を理解しているのはもちろんのこと、その瞬間瞬間の音に反応して響きあうから、歌心が宿るというものでしょう。

もっとも、レッド･ミッチェルが言う処、“マーシュは、コードも、リズムもベース･ラインもメロディも、すべて一人で演奏できるし、どう表現すべきかわかっている”とのことなのですが、相方がいるからこその発展と展開、があるのが、またジャズ。

1927 年生まれどうしの熟達のDUO。“これぞトリスターノ派”といったフレーズが繰り広げられ、ベースと絶妙の会話を聞かせる（弾く所はもちろんのこと、弾かない所もツボをおさえたミッチェルのセンスに脱帽）Little Willie Leaps など最高にクールです。
