Product Description

The Gate' is the debut album from bassist and composer Phil Donkin, one of the world's most in demand young musicians working in jazz and improvisational-based music. Originally from the UK, he established himself early on in London and then made a name for himself in New York City and is now again in Europe-based (Germany) where he enjoys a truly international career having performed with many of world's most creative musicians, including Kurt Rosenwinkel, John Abercrombie, Kenny Wheeler, Julian Arguelles, Evan Parker, Nils Wogram, Marc Copland, Bill Stewart, Ralph Peterson, Nasheet Waits, Edward Simon, Kevin Hays and many others. Featuring Grammy-award nominated saxophonist Ben Wendel, drum wizard Jochen Rckert, and rising piano star Glenn Zaleski, the Gate is a debut album of extraordinary depth and maturity. It features ten original compositions and two arrangements (Monk & Shostakovich). Bursting with wit and intelligence, the pieces are navigated expertly by the four members, displaying a complex array of textures and emotions. Personnel: Phil Donkin (double bass), Ben Wendel (tenor saxophone), Glenn Zaleski (piano), Jochen Rueckert (drums).
