'98年にデビュー・アルバムを発表して以来、ペリーはあくなき音楽的探求し続けている。60年代のウェスト・コースト・サウンドやバート・バカラックに多大な影響を受けたというそのサウンドは広くヨーロッパ中で受け入れられている。2000年には『Presque Rain』という映画のサントラも制作し、その音楽性の高さと印象的なアレンジでその存在を更に強固なものにしていった。そんなペリーが新たな境地を開いたと言えるのが本作である。往年のモータウンの雰囲気を反映させたかったというペリーの言葉通り、ストリングスやブラスセクションを散りばめ、その憂いを帯びたメロディに彩りを添えている。
