Get To Know Patricia layne-williams What is your music background? Music has always been a part of my life. Ever since I was a little girl, I would sit on my mom's dresser and sing. As I look at my self I imagined singing before a great audience I could hear in my mind the cheers from the crowd. I came from a Christian home and grew up with a family of musicians. My grandpa had a band and I would listen to them play and I will sing along to all the songs. I enjoyed every moment of it. Growing up I have always been a little shy. One day, I was at home with my mom and the church superintendant stopped by. I was singing in the shower and unaware of her presence. When I came out to the living room she said 'you have a very beautiful voice. I never knew you could sing. I want you to sing for my program this weekend. Be prepared. I will call on you.' I said no because I was a bit embarrassed of the attention I got whenever someone would hear me sing. As the week went by I forgot about the church superintendant and her upcoming program. The morning for church, I got and got dressed and went to church with my family. During the divine service the church superintendant announced 'we will now be blessed with a special item of music by Patricia. O my goodness! I almost passed out. My knees locked, my heart felt like it was coming out of my chest through my mouth and I seemed to have difficulty breathing. I began to walk hesitantly to the stage. My mind went blank. I did know what I would sing. When I arrived at the pulpit one of the Deacons handed me the Mic. I was so nervous that the Mic fell out my hands to the floor. I somehow regained my composure. As I peered into the crowd I could see my mom's face looking at me so lovingly. I focused on her and I gain my strength to perform. It was kill or be killed! I sang great is thy faithfulness and I killed it! From that moment on there was no turning back for me. I enjoy being in the spotlight. I understand the attention is a good thing. But most of all it feels good to know that people enjoy my music. To know some I have helped to go through a difficult time through my message in song. To others my singing inspires them to survive another week. I have performed at gospel concerts and churches in NW Miami, Georgia, New York (Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan) Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada, St .
Vincent. I sang solo, duet and group. Vocal training at Encore music lessons, NYC, NY. I believe, I've been given a special gift of singing. Have you ever noticed when you receive a gift you are excited to show and tell everyone. I want to show my gift to the world. I want to be heard through song. If through my songs I can reach someone and bring some joy or hope to their lives it would be my pleasure. Why do you want to record and release your own music? I want to communicate love, hope and healing through my life's experiences to the world. Music is the greatest and most powerful method of communication. It is the only language that the whole world can understand. I enjoy singing and I believe I possess the necessary skill and determination to succeed. The music business is very lucrative. It would be dishonest to say that I'm not in the business to be successful. Money to me is the by product of my general achievements. Who is your fan/customer or target audience? My songs are geared to the youth through adult both Christians and non Christians alike. Targeting fans USA, Canada, the Caribbean, and eventually the world. What do you want your songs to be about? I want to be a gospel singer. Covering topics such as: Love, life's experiences, hope, inspiration and relationships. Do you write songs? I am quick learner. I am ready and willing to learn how to go about writing my own songs. What/who are your musical influences? Sandi Patty. I enjoy listening to Sandi Patty as an artist. Her songs are very inspiring.
