LAアンダーグラウンドの伝説的グループfreestyle fellowshipのmyka 9のニューアルバムは、カナダのプロデューサーfactorとの全面的なコラボレーション。factorのアルバム『chandelier』にmyka 9が参加したことがそもそものきっかけです。タイトルの「1969」はmyka自身が生まれた年であり、長らく心を打つようなパーソナルな音楽を作ってきた彼が本作に込めたのはノスタルジーです。モータウン・サウンド、ヒッピー、サイケデリック、キャデラックなど彼の子ども時代に馴染み深かったことが参照されています。それにあわせたfactorによるヘヴィーファンク、サイケロック風のソウルやディスコをベースにしたプロダクションも素晴らしく、mykaのスキャットを多用した独特のフローを見事に引き出しています。project blowedの盟友aceyaloneやbusdriver、awol oneなどがゲスト参加し、それぞれ素晴らしい貢献を果たしています。
