On this debut outing of the unique FOCUS Trio, Grammy-nominated pianist Marc Cary brings into sharp focus his many influences - from deep indigenous world rhythms to hard bop to classical lyricism. Cary's imaginative key-work is famed from recording and touring with Stefon Harris, Betty Carter, Abbey Lincoln, Roy Hargrove and Wynton Marsalis, just to name a few. Recently named one of the four most multi-dimensional keymen on the scene today by DOWNBEAT magazine [April 06 issue], Cary is alternately percussive and subtle, animated and introspective, balancing energy and lyricism with a depth of personal expression that is rare. FOCUS, the Motema Music debut of Marc's Trio, introduces Marc's new sound, which he calls 'classicalindigenous jazz for the people'.
