The February issue of Gramophone is now available, and we focus on the music of Delius in the composer’s 150th anniversary year. Jeremy Dibble looks at his life, his journey from Bradford to Florida, Norway, Germany and France, and how this influenced his composing, and recommend some recordings for exploring his music.

We also meet with the superb trumpet player Alison Balsom, sitting in while she gives a masterclass, then talking to her about her new disc of contemporary concertos. Mezzo Alice Coote writes this month’s diary, while Michael Collins takes us through Weber’s Clarinet Concerto in this month’s Musician and the Score feature. We also introduce a new feature this month, called Icons, in which a writer celebrates the extraordinary contribution an artist has made to recorded classical music – this month, Jascha Heifetz.
