Product Description

LYNNE TAYLOR Sonic Food for the Soul Lynne Taylor has been an important musical voice in New England for nearly 30 years. Her music has evolved as she has, and is always pushing conventions and boundaries in the realm of social and personal awareness. Her lyrics range from dark and moody to hopeful and uplifting. She is different from any of her contemporaries - there is really no comparison to be made, either musically or lyrically. The daughter of a folk musician and a poet, Lynne grew up in Kent, Ohio during the sixties and seventies, and absorbed the social consciousness of that time. She has always felt that music was her calling. She began writing her own songs at the age of fourteen, and has been performing professionally ever since in a wide variety of genres ranging from bluegrass to punk rock and everything in between. Lynne's music is characterized by poignant, brutally honest songwriting combined with a powerful vocals and unique piano accompaniment. A staple on the music scene in her adopted hometown of Newburyport, MA, she has been performing professionally across the northeastern US since 1985. In addition to being a popular solo artist, Lynne can currently be found having a blast playing upright electric bass in roots/alt/country-rock band, Liz Frame and the Kickers and punk band, Halo and the Harlots. One thing is certain; whether playing her own material or supporting others, Lynne Taylor has a sound and spirit that is instantly recognizable and all her own! 'Now, right now, I am flooded with feelings, all good. Earlier tonight, after 3 days of mixing in the studio, I sat in my car, watched the sun set over Joppa Flats, listened to the songs on my crappy old car stereo system, and I cried... tears of gratitude. And relief. And humility. For the past 18 years, since my last solo release, I have walked, run, sometimes crawled toward this moment. The oldest song on this album was written in 1989, the newest in 2012, the rest are in-between. The work of an artist often occurs under the surface, in the murky depths of the subconscious; but it also occurs in the day to day struggle, of staying the course and believing in the integrity of one's art enough to push through the tough times and the dry spells.' ~Lynne Tayloron releasing 'When Lightning Strikes' Lynne Taylor has been an important musical voice in New England for nearly 30 years. Her music has evolved as she has, and is always pushing conventions and boundaries in the realm of social awareness. Her lyrics range from dark and moody to hopeful and uplifting. She is different from any of her contemporaries - there is really no comparison to be made, either musically or lyrically. I came to the realization that Lynne and I have been playing together for 20 years, almost to the day, as I write this. Lynne has always been an inspiration to me as a musician, a parent and a human being. I was honored when she asked me to play on this album and also realized that I've been involved with most of her musical endeavors over the past 20 years, which made me the ideal person to hip you to the musical world of Lynne Taylor. When Lightning Strikes is an outstanding retrospective of Lynne's life in music thus far. Not only do some of the songs date back nearly 20 years, but the album encapsulates the musical maturity that can only be achieved through a career that spans over 30 years. I first met Lynne when I was 19 years old, when an old friend of hers and I started playing together. He had set up a session with Lynne and made it clear that I needed to have my act together because she was the real deal. We met up in a small barn in York, Maine, where we proceeded to play some of Lynne's songs. As soon as Lynne opened her mouth to sing, I could barely focus on playing. I'd never experienced a singer with such a powerful voice - both sweet and rocking, with a huge range. Her keyboard playing was different from what my ears were used to hearing; she seemed to be mimicking a finger-picked guitar. These sounds that I was discovering for the first time are the hallma
