Product Description

Digitally remastered two CD set containing a trio of Labelle albums from the mid-1970s: Nightbirds (1974), Phoenix (1975) and Chameleon (1976). Though all of Labelle's albums made the U.S. Top 100, it was the Nightbirds album that would yield their biggest hit: The #1 smash 'Lady Marmalade.' Band members Patti Labelle and Nona Hendryx later went on to pursue successful solo careers. BGO. 2009.

祝い! 「Phoenix　不死鳥はブルースに踊る」初CD化。あとの２枚は、CD時代になって、かなり早い時期に復刻されましたが、EPIC第２作のこれだけが、ずっと日の目を見ていませんでした。表題曲が超ドラマティックなせいもあり、彼女たちのシアトリカルな面がよくでたアルバム。ほとんどの曲がノーナのペンによるもので、そのスケールの大きな作品にのせて３人がシャウトしまくっています。プロデュースは「Nightbirds」と同じくアラン・トゥーサン、バッキングもやはりミーターズなど、ニューオリンズのミュージシャンによるファンキー大会。「レディ・マーマレード」ほどの大ヒット・シングルがでなかったせいもあってか、前作の陰に隠れてしまっていますが、ファンク、宇宙、政治、セックス、プリミティブなスピリチャル性などを融合するコンセプトの完成度は、こちらのほうが上。これで音質が良くて、あの印象的なジャケットが、せめてCDサイズで入っていれば文句なし。

発売前で詳細が不明なのですが・・・disc2枚に3作が収録されているものだと思います。 おそらく、“Phoenix”は初CD化。 この日が来るとは・・・感激！ 発売当時あまり評価されていなかったかもしれませんが、Epic時代のLabelle3作の中では最高傑作です。 生きてて良かった・・・・。
