後期コルトレーンの幕開けを象徴するライブアルバム。ファラオ･サンダース(ts)とドナルド･ギャレット(bcl,b)をクラシック･カルテットに加え、全編にわたって激しいフリージャズを展開する。六曲中四曲の演奏は20分を越し、内二曲は30分におよぶが、長すぎる感があるのはおそらくリード奏者のパーソナリティーの違いやリズムセクションの方向性とズレがあるために、以前のようなパワーが生まれていないからだろう。個々の演奏は素晴らしいが、グループとしてのパワーはここには見い出しにくい。この演奏から数ヶ月後、マッコイ、エルビンは退団。
