1984年モーリシャス生まれのピアニストが、ACTから大抜擢。音楽教育を受けるため17歳でパリへ移住し、2013年の「モントルー・ジャズ祭コンペ」優勝の実績を引っ提げたデビュー作は、規格外の個性と実力をアピール。ソプラノサックスとフリューゲルホーンを含むクインテットにゲストが加わった演奏は、レオニードがルーツを意識した音作りがインパクト大。音楽好きの好奇心を揺さぶらずにおかないハイブリッド・サウンドが痛快だ。（文／杉田宏樹氏）
