Product Description

2007 digitally re-mastered CD reissue from the Deep Purple vocalist's solo years. Child in Time was the first album by Ian Gillan after his departure from Deep Purple in 1973. The Ian Gillan Band comprised Ian Gillan himself, Ray Fenwick (guitar), John Gustafson (bass), Mike Mornan (keyboards), and Mark Nauseef (drums). Released in July 1976, it reached 55 in the UK album chart and shows the band pursuing a jazz rock direction. The title track is an amazing reworking of the Deep Purple classics from Deep Purple in Rock. The languorous 'Let It Slide, almost 12 minutes in length, gives the band the opportunity to showcase their skills. Seven tracks. Edsel.

発売当時はあまり評判にならなかったみたいですが、オルタナティブなロックという感じでとても良いです。 PURPLEというフィルターを通さずに聴いた方がいいです。M-6の”Child In Time”は新しいアレンジでこれを聴く為に買っても損はないです。オケも力量のあるミュージシャン揃いなので安心して聴けます。

このアルバムは、もともとイアンのソロアルバムとしてレコーディングされたということで、ある意味では中途半端な出来で、物足りなさもあります。しかし、イアンのヴォーカルのみずみずしさには心が揺さぶられます。地味ではありますが、聴き所は、『Down the Road』です。スローで、ねっとりとしていていながら、シャウトが炸裂しています。イアンのヴォーカルのエッセンスが詰まっているようです。発売当時は、ＤＰとのあまりの違いに絶句したのですが、先入観なしに聴けば、すばらしい出来です。
