Product Description

Say what you like about George Michael but you can never accuse him of being bog standard. Everything he does in and out of the (water) closet is unique, exhilarating and progressive. His new studio album ‘Patience’ may have been weighed down by label changes, political roundabouts and constant delays but the finished product is one of the best of Michael’s career.

The album kicks off with classic George with the brilliant title track and is quickly followed up by the equally magical ‘Amazing’. Elsewhere the controversial ‘Shoot The Dog’ gets another airing as does a reworked version of former single ‘Freeeek!’. The fallen heroes eulogy of ‘John And Elvis (Are Dead)’ is the highlight though, proving that George Michael is still one of the most innovative and imaginative songwriters around.

‘Patience’ is George Michael at his sublime peak. A thrilling return to form from one of Britain’s greatest talents.

ジョージの最高傑作のうちのひとつ。 彼のスピリチュアルサウンドは僕らを優しさの世界へと誘う。 前作OLDERからの久しぶりのオリジナルアルバム。 OLDER発表後、母の死、公衆わいせつによる逮捕、ゲイであることのカムアウトなど、困難続きであった生活の中から、genuine artist であることを彼自身が渾身の力をこめて証明させた。 １、３曲目は名曲。特に５曲目のROUND HERE は最高であろう。

賛否両論相半ばのようだが、音楽性は違えどスティングに比べると彼の方が 曲の密度やオリジナリティは高いと思う。非常に洗練された完成度の高いアルバムだと思うけれども、ちょっと長いのとリズムパターンと言うか曲調のバリエーションが少ない感じを持ってしまうのだ。 元気がないという人もいるが、舞台裏のゴタゴタのせいか折角の素晴らしい才能が今一歩突き抜け切れない印象が残るのが、残念と言えば残念だ。
