Product Description

The sessions with Lewis Nash and Peters Washington were quite informal, however the human and musical vibes felt so good that everything quickly fell into place. The idea was to have fun and just play as it goes, and most of the cuts ended up being first takes. THERE IS NO GREATER LOVE, (composed by Isham Jones, lyrics by Marty Symes). The intro is taken from the introduction of Oscar Peterson and Clark Terry in Mack the Knife. CG BLUES, (composed by Franois Aubin) is a simple blues tune in F composed in honor of Carl Girard. The tune has echoes of Milt Jackson's S.K.J., which perhaps Franois heard in a bar at one time and somehow intuitively reproduced. MINGUS MINGUS, (composed by Franois Aubin) is based on a song for Harry Carney by Charles Mingus. The melodic line is based on Hermeto Pascoal's chord progression. The middle bar is a minor blues line with chromatic movements. AUTUMN LEAVES, (composed by Joseph Kosma with lyrics by Jacques Prvert). During the intro, Franois was thinking of the Hank Jones version with Miles Davis and Cannonball Aderley. This song is his daughter Clara's favorite jazz tune. IN A MELLOW TONE, (composed by Duke Ellington, lyrics by Milt Gabler) is one of Franois' favorite tunes and a way for him to express his deep admiration of The Duke. It is one of the first jazz songs that Franois learned. ANTHROPOLOGY, (composed by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie) is one of jazz' preferred themes for rhythm changes. Franois did not know the melody but tried it anyhow. A little editing has been done to reduce it's length but there still was good interaction between the musicians.
