コステロは時に技に（知に？）溺れるところがあるが、これは会心の冒険作で近年の最高傑作。リズムとメロディを簡潔でキッチュな（しかし印象深い）ループにしつつも、ボーカルの表現力で最大の効果を生み出している。Beckとかにも通じるところがあるけど、それとはまた違った計算された洗練が感じられる。不思議だけど、バート＝バカラックとか、ポール＝マッカートニーとか、他人とコラボしたときが、コステロの真骨頂が最大限に発揮される気がする。引き出し広いし、新しいものへの好奇心も全く衰えないねえ。こういう作品が一番マッカートニーあたりを刺激するんじゃないかな？
