Product Description

Following the release of 'Songs from Under Weigh' I spent a great deal of my time abroad. I had the trade winds in my sails and a candid cardboard cutout claiming, 'Adventure or Bust'. I was determined to strike the shoulda's and coulda's from my midlife lexis, and sparing the details, I believe I accomplished what I set off to do. Henry Miller once wrote, 'One's destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things', and with every new experience, I found these words to hold very true. It was in these wanderings that the songs for 'Goodbye, Zen5, Sushi Dinner' first took form. I wanted to create an album that was honest and personally truthful. I became obsessed with the concepts of life and purpose, and how in the final scene, some actors still mutter the word 'regret'. I became obsessed with not being one of them. 'Everyone, when they are young, knows what their destiny is. At that point in their lives, everything is clear and everything is possible. They are not afraid to dream, and to yearn for everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives. But, as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their destiny...' -Paulo Coelho, 'The Alchemist' This is an album about that struggle.
