2010年、生誕100周年を迎え、フランスを中心に再び大脚光を集めたジャンゴ･ラインハルトの生涯をつづる貴重なドキュメンタリー映像。本DVDでは、1910年、ロマの一族の元に生を受けて以来、ミュゼットと出会い、若くして頭角を現し実力を発揮するスタート地点から、パリを訪れたデューク･エリントン、ルイ･アームストロングの音楽に魅せられるというジャンゴとジャズとの出会い、同じくロマの血で旅芸人の息子であったステファン･グラッペリとの出会いや交流、音楽的発展、名声などが当時の時代背景や、米仏のジャズ･シーンと共に、丁寧に描かれています。

そして、少ないながらも、、ジャンゴの動く姿も収録されているのが、やはり大きな魅力。大やけどを負ってしまったために、左手の動く指はたったの3本。ほぼ2本の指で、全ての楽曲の弦をおさえて奏でるという事実は、頭で、知識で知りつつ、しかし、現実、目の当たりにすると、本当にビックリするもの。スウィングするリズム、華麗なるメロディ、速いパッセージもなんのその、涼しい顔して楽しそうに演奏する姿。その映像には、本当に驚かされるというものです。日本語字幕付き。マヌーシュ･ジャズ･ファンの方必見の映像です。
