Product Description

One of the most talked about figures of jazz of the late 1930's and early 1940's, Charlie Barnet was an uncompromising innovator who led the blackest white band of them all. His was the only white band to break attendance records at Harlem's Apollo Theater, and was one of the first to feature African American stars - Lena Horne, for one, got her first big break with Barnet's orchestra. In 1958 Charlie assembled a band of all stars to record his big hits in stereo, which is the source for the tracks presented here. Featured here is Cherokee/Redskin Rhumba, a reworking of Cherokee, Barnet's huge 1939 hit originally recorded for the Bluebird label, coupled with a Barnet original, East Side, West Side. Newly re-mastered. [Note: This product is an authorized, licensed CD-R and is manufactured on demand]
