Bud Powell

40年代から50年代初頭に掛けてのセッションを収録した作品はいづれもバドの“天才“が光輝く演奏だ。彼は多くのパウエル派を生んだが、ビル・エヴァンスがそうであったようにパウエルとパウエル派との間には大きな谷間が存在した。パウエルはジャズの歴史においてビバップ・イディオムの実践とインプロヴィゼイションにおけるオリジナリティとモダニティを一度に成し遂げた数少ない巨人の一人である。
