Seiji Ozawa remains the longest-serving music director in the history of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, having held the position for 29 seasons from 1973-2002. He has made his mark as one of the most prominent conductors in North America from early on in his career, having been appointed by Leonard Bernstein as assistant conductor to the New York Philharmonic for the 1961-62 season and continuing to serve as music director at the Ravinia Festival, the Toronto Symphony and the San Francisco Symphony, among many other engagements. This superb 25-CD set contains all the recordings that the Japanese conductor Seiji Ozawa made for EMI and Erato, now Warner Classics, between 1969 and 1998. They particularly showcase his mastery of large-scale orchestral scores and his prowess as an accompanist to major soloists. The collection places an emphasis on Seiji Ozawa's mastery of the large-scale orchestral scores of the 19th and 20th centuries. It's scope is wide - from mainstays of the Romantic repertoire to works premiered as recently as 1997 - and it features an array of the world's greatest orchestras and soloists, including Itzhak Perlman, Anne-Sophie Mutter and Mstislav Rostropovich.

高くなったなあ。私が購入したときと比較すると3倍である。現ワーナーの録音の中では、ビゼーのアルルの女組曲他が、CD最初期にリリース直後に購入した思い出のディスクであり、しかも演奏録音ともに素晴らしい。小澤は、フランス国立管弦楽団と大変相性が良く、レパートリーもフランス系の音楽が、しなやかな音楽性と親和性が高かった。なのに小沢氏が、独墺志向だったのは、個人的には戦略ミスだったと勝手に思っている。このボックスは、相性の良いと思われる楽曲の割合が高く、小澤ファンならずも、音楽的に満足できるセットであると思う。

小澤の演奏を「水面に映った景色のようだ」と評した方がおられましたが、まさに的を得た表現だと思いました。 小澤はスタイルとしては力演して音楽に没頭するすごい指揮者だと思いますが、出てきた音楽は何故か起伏がなく、綺麗で整ってはいますが、私の中ではさらさらと流れるだけに終わってしまいます。私は少々暴れていても音楽の本質をわしづかみにする演奏が好きなのですが・・・・。

圧倒的な個性を放つものではありませんが、安心して聴ける良演揃いです。 ポピュラーな曲が多くレーベルの小澤への期待がわかります。 エラートの近現代曲の録音の中ではデュティユーがさすがの名演です。
