Product Description

Formed in Bristol, SW England in 1983, this group of anarchic musicians formed the world's first punk-jazz band, with seismic attacks on the UK Thatcher Government of the day (Feel The Wealth, Honorary Degrees), they created spontaneous music that swooped and pecked viciously at the established jazz 'scene'. Still with the original line-up some 27 years later, they still seeth and froth but also with a sense of irony and humour (Virtual Dentistry anyone ?) and are still in the Vanguard of the new music movement which includes Polar Bear, Led Bib and Firestation. Their particular brand of vital and spontaneous music is called TAMP (Tonally Ambivalent Meta-Pulse). Featured artists in their own right, Aaron Standon (guitar and saxes) comes from the Ornette Coleman school of free form funky jazz, whilst classically trained string meastro Peter Evans provides links to Stravinsky, Bartok and other contemporary European Classical giants. The mighty Buffalo bass of Mark Turner together with multi instrumentalist drummer Marco Anderson provide the beats that pummel this debut studio album along. 'Tunes, but without the Moon in June' and 'Zappa-tight riffs that morph sideways of jazz rock' are two comments from reviewers on the release of this album.
