自ら作詞作曲も手掛けるデンマーク出身の女性歌手アン・キールフの、1995年に作成されたデビューアルバムが本作"Songs from Afar"。サックスのHans Ulrikを中心に、ピアノレス・クァルテットによる伴奏はより彼女の透き通る歌声を引き出してくれております。曲は全編彼女のオリジナル。メンバーもアコースティック、エレクトリックと楽器を使い分けており、いわゆるスタンダード・ソングはありませんが、ゆっくり歌ってみせる曲からバラード、ミディアム・テンポのナンバーまで、彼女の魅力をじっくりと味わえます。ジャズ・ヴォーカルだけどフュージョンのように聴こえ、おもしろい作品となっております。(新譜情報より)
