The award winning Ameranouche (pronounced uh-MARE-uh-noosh) is the premier gypsy jazz trio in the United States. The name is derived from two words: American and Manouche, the gypsy tribe of guitarist Django Rienhardt. This rip-roaring ensemble is a super force of hot acoustic jazz, mixed with soul, flamenco, and bebop influences. Played on traditional French jazz guitars, the music is rhythmic, vigorous, and elegant. Whether they're playing a musette waltz from 1930 or a funk-inspired original tune, Ameranouche is the sound of gypsyjazz in the 21st century. About the music on this CD: There are eight pieces of music that comprise this CD. All of them are about an interconnected rhythm that we all share and as such share harmonic and rhythmic commonalities as well as diversities. The tiles are Canto, Mambo 13, Johnny's swing, Sweet solitude, HOT!, And Suite Maine (Drive, Silhouette, Jericho Sunset). Canto is a piece conceptualized around the idea of our collective energies, our commonalities. That which allows a separation of the poetics of each moment after or before each moment moves towards and away from each moment. Mambo 13 is the first piece written in our hotel room within the first hours of 2013 shortly after celebrating it's arrival with the fine folks in Belfast Maine. The folks in Belfast really know how to party and have a good time. HOH!! Johnny's Swing was written for Shepp's son John Russel. It is about the joy of being a child and the joy of knowing them. Thank you Johnny. You inspire me every day to be better than I was the day before and to try and have fun doing so. Sweet Solitude is a special tune as it reflects so much personal thematic and episodic musical ideas that sometimes come out when alone just listening to the common musical flow that exists around us all. HOT!, Just let the horse out of the barn and let it run as fast and as hard as it wants to. In music this means just going for it within the parameters of the piece and seeing how it turns out each time. This is a concert piece for sure that we tried to capture some on this CD. It is a very fun tune to play. Most of the time, Suite Maine (Drive, Silhouette and Sunset Jericho) is a three piece suite dedicated to the energy, beauty, sincerity, mystery, profundity and kindness of the coastal regions of the great pine tree state of Maine. It contains the same basic thematic and episodic melodic constructs throughout each harmonic setting. Maine is a place where you will find a special replenishing respite and the coast is just the beginning of it magnificence of whole beautiful state. Ah-yuh!!
