Moonbow was three years in the making, with sessions scattered generally once a month at Full Well Studio in Phoenix, Arizona. The studio sits right next to the State Fairgrounds. During the fall, the ferris wheel juts into the sky just across an alleyway behind the studio, which basically looks like a big barn. Inside, in the darkened atmosphere, is a wonderland of amplifiers, a completely miked drum kit, posters on the walls -- and it's all under the expert, watchful eye and ear of Mike Bolenbach, the proprietor, a place where musicians can make things happen. Mike's got hair like Howard Stern, and if you could somehow bottle perpetual youth -- well, Bolenbach's got it. As for me, I've been writing songs for 23 years. I have an earlier CD that I collaborated on with a buddy, songwriter Dave Weil, and an even earlier effort, 'Dark Times.' In our most recent go-round, 'All Over the Road,' we broke out 17 original songs. Through the years, I've compiled a library of about two and a half hours of just my own compositions, not including the CD work I did with Dave Weil. He also let me sing on his recent solo release, 'Our Private Sun.' All those years, I wanted to see if a group of musicians could help me translate an idea into quality rock. I hear all kinds of different beats and styles in my head, but I'm not married to any particular attack. So, I tend to blend. But I like good gnarly, ballsy beats. If you were to try to bracket me, Allen Wadlo Williams, with two different and/or similar musicians, I'd say Steve Earle meets Led Zeppelin. I'd like to mention the other musicians on the record. Valley musician Pat Flannery laid down some outstanding tracks with some deft slide playing and rocking. Drummer Chris Fiscus added the authority we were looking for. And hard-working bassman Jeff Leece gave us a solid foundation. Getting back to Mike Bolenbach, he did the engineering and mastering, and helped out with some of the playing. What a monster. I swear he has dog ears. I really hope you enjoy my record. It was a labor of love bringing it to you.
