アルバムの統一感など通り越して、もう全部おんなじなのだが、素晴らしいとはどういうことなのだろう。79年というタイミングで完成したロックの到達点の1つ。

AC/DCが「ただのロックンロールバンド」から脱皮するには、やはりボン・スコットの死をのり超えるという試練が必要だったのではないか。そんじょそこらのバンドには逆立ちしても作れない傑作だし、孤高の世界の片鱗があちらこちらに垣間見える。本作がなければ今の彼らはなかっただろう。が、次作以降の質的な違い、本物が遂に本物になり切った凄さには太刀打ちできない。

Highway to Hellが初めてラジオから流れてきた時のショックをいまだに覚えている。アレンジや楽器の使い方等特に目新しい事をやっていた訳ではないにも拘わらず、彼らのサウンドは単なるヘヴィーロックを完全に超えていた。それが何なのか未だに判らないが、ヤング兄弟の天才的リフ作りと、遺作となったボン・スコットの狂気じみたボーカル、ロック・アルバムとして完璧な一枚である。
