音楽に見る20世紀史　その昔”20世紀百人一曲”と題するアンソロジーを編んだことがある　20世紀に書かれた曲から百人の作曲家の一曲ずつを選び出してまとめたものだ　これは酔狂人の座興に過ぎないが　ラトルがBBCと組んで作った番組は見事な音楽史であり20世紀史となっている　楽曲をまるまる鑑賞することはできないがけれど　ラトルが吐露しているように鑑賞の水先案内になっている　50人弱だが登場する作曲家は的確に選ばれている　選出基準は番組の中で触れられている　演奏紹介された楽曲も意を得たものだった　ほぼ全ての楽曲はラトルの指揮で演奏したものが挿入されている　ラトルが語ってナビゲートするから自ずと滲み出すラトルの音楽観に感銘と共感を覚えた　間も無くイギリスに戻るラトルがいかなる音楽世界を開陳して演奏活動をするのか興味が尽きない　音楽に未来を望む友よ　ぜひ一聴を
