私に言わせればやはりセルが響かすワグナー...

私に言わせればやはりセルが響かすワグナーは音の整理屋さん的ワグナーである。リングのモチーフを知るには良いだろう。しかし、純粋に演奏という観点からは底から大きくうねったり深く沈みこんだり官能的な響きのニュアンスに欠ける。どの指揮者が演奏してもワグナーはワグナーに聴こえるが、フルトヴェングラーやクナ、クレンペラーのワグナーとはそのあたりが根本的に違う。私にはセルよりランスドルフのワグナーのほうが魅了的に聴こえる。

巨大なスケールのワーグナーを速めのテンポ、引き締まった筋肉質の響きで、明解に聞かせる、まあ、いつも通りのセルの魅力が詰まっていますが、それだけではない。この1枚を聴けば「指輪」の主要なライトモティーフが分かり、全曲の鑑賞も楽になるという優れもの。セルが嫌いだった宇野功芳氏も推薦した1枚。

完璧なアンサンブルの演奏が、リマスターSACD化で音が柔らかくブレンドされるようになった。クナ等の演奏とは対照的だが、このような演奏も良いと思う。このセルのSACDシリーズは、音質向上だけではなく解説書も充実しているのが嬉しい。。セル指揮のワーグナーやモーツアルトのオペラ正規録音が残されていないのは本当に残念だ。
