Organ Works : Desenclos

On this disc, Frederic Desenclos performs a rich anthology of the organ music of Louis Marchand, who settled in Paris at the end of Lully's life and died one year before the first performance of Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie. These works reveal the full dimensions of his output, where humor courts with seriousness, innovation mixes with mastery of form, and studied compositional procedures are balanced by sheer pleasure of timbre. Desenclos is the resident organist of the Chapelle Royale at the Chateau de Versailles, organ professor at the Orleans Conservatoire and musical director of the acclaimed Ensemble Pierre Robert.
