ドイツ人とウクライナ人を両親に持つドイツのソプラノ、ドロテー・ミールズ（ドイツ語ではミールツ）によるパーセル作品をメインとした歌曲アルバム。
　鈴木雅明、レオンハルト、ブリュッヘン、ヘレヴェッヘ等との共演も多いミールズの透明な声は、バッハやヘンデル、テレマン、モーツァルト、シュテルツェルなどの作品ですでにおなじみ。カールス・レーベルでの前作、パーセル：『愛の歌』に続き、ここでもノンヴィブラートによる美しく柔らかな声により、「愛」の嫉妬、狂乱などを、ときに怒りに満ちて力強く、そして切なく歌い上げています。
　共演は1984年に結成されたドイツの古楽アンサンブル「ラウテン・カンパニー」。指揮者カチュナーのもと、思い切り良く斬新で自在な演奏を繰り広げることでも知られるこのアンサンブルならではの多彩な表現がたいへん効果的なアルバムです。（ＨＭＶ）
