このCDはジョン・ウィリアムズの有名な映画音楽を集めたCDです。 グスターボ・ドゥダメル指揮、ロサンゼルス・フィルハーモニックの演奏でライヴ収録されたものです。 同オケはかつてメータ時代にスターウォーズ組曲を録音するなど、ウィリアムズと縁深い団体です。 まず見て思うのが意外と有名に見えてマイナーな選曲で、例えばスターウォーズではあの有名なテーマ曲は収録されていません。 しかし、王座の間とエンドタイトルで出てくるのであえて外しているのでしょう。 そしてサントラでも買わなければなかなか聴けない曲が収録されているのが特徴です。 演奏はこのオケらしい機動力を生かした演奏で、ストリングスも良い音を出しておりますが、やはりブラスが良いサウンドをしています。 そのためブラスが活躍する曲、例えばスーパーマンやレイダースマーチ、オリンピック・ファンファーレなどは新たな名演と言えそうです。 録音はライヴなのですが1月24〜27日と日を跨いで一回の演奏会でなく、編集したもののようです。 ウォルト・ディズニー・コンサート・ホールの音響も手伝ってか、残響豊かな録音で、あまりライヴらしさは感じられず、セッション録音の様な仕上がりになっています。
