音楽はシンプルだが美しく、古さもあまり感じなかった。 魔女が出て来てディドーとエネアスの運命を狂わせ、悲劇へと向かっていくところは『マクベス』に似ているかもしれない。ただ『マクベス』では直接魔女と対話するがこの作品では魔女がジュピターに化けたりする。 ジェッシー・ノーマンが自己主張せずに作品の内側にしっかりと入り込み、せつせつと歌っている姿が素晴らしい。
