Based on a true story – the case of Michel is well known among those who study exorcisms. In 1976, the Catholic Church officially recognized the demonic possession of a 19-year-old German college freshman. During her exorcism, the young woman died, and the priest stood trial for causing her death. The script unfolds Rashomon style with different points of view recounting the events. Academy Award nominee Laura Linney plays an attorney who defends the Catholic priest (Tom Wilkinson) who has been charged with the negligent homicide of the girl whose exorcism he presided over. The case reawakens her faith.

Content Description

ごく普通の１９歳の女子大生、エミリー・ローズ。
ある晩の午前３時、彼女は突然恐ろしい幻覚に襲われ、凄まじい癬攣を引き起こす。
自分に何かが取り憑いていることを確信した彼女は、医学ではなくムーア神父に自らの運命を託すことにした。
しかし、神父の献身的な努力の甲斐もなく、悪魔祓いの儀式の後、エミリーは命を落としてしまう。
やがて、過失致死罪で起訴された、ムーア神父の裁判が始まった。
全国民が有罪だと信じる中、敏腕弁護士のエリンと出会った神父は、エミリーの身に起こったことを法廷で語り始める・・・。
証拠品として提出された悪魔祓いを記録したテープと死の直前に彼女が書き残した１通の手紙が裁判を衝撃の結末へ導いていく・・・。
