熟年離婚、無縁社会に続く今回のテーマは主婦への讃歌。両親と同居する長男の嫁が家出したことから、平田一家に思わぬ騒動が起こる。
橋爪功、吉行和子、西村まさ彦、夏川結衣、中嶋朋子、林家正蔵、妻夫木聡、蒼井優といった前2作のシリーズおなじみのキャストが顔を揃え、新たに落語家の立川志らくが登場。
これぞ日本映画、日本の笑いともいえる喜劇映画の真骨頂との呼び声高い作品。
音楽は全シリーズを担当している久石 譲。音楽で作品に更に彩りを加える。
