本作は1999年にリリースされた4作目『ザ・ガソリン・エイジ』で今回アナログ盤のみのリイシュー！リリース当時、米ニューヨーク・タイムズ誌、英ジ・インディペンデントにて「アルバム・オブ・ザ・イヤー」を獲得した超名盤。ニュージャージーに位置する国道22号での真夜中のドライヴからアイデアが湧いてきたという本作。郊外の風景をふと思い起こすような安らかさ、そして静寂を誘うチューンがぎっしりと詰め込まれた逸品。アルコール中毒、鬱病、そして薬物中毒によりホームレスになりながらも音楽を作っていた彼。そんな彼の音楽を今や妻であるバーバラ・パワーズが見出しスタジオに入れてあげたそう。それをきっかけに彼は音楽を新しい中毒とし、恍惚に満ちた作品を今に至るまで7枚も生み出してきた。
