This is the first time The Beatles (White Album) has been remixed and presented with additional demos and session recordings. The albums sweeping new edition follows 2017s universally acclaimed Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Anniversary Edition releases. To create the new audio mixes for The White Album, Martin and Okell worked with an expert team of engineers and audio restoration specialists at Abbey Road Studios in London. In remixing The White Album, weve tried to bring you as close as possible to The Beatles in the studio, explains Giles Martin in his written introduction for the new edition. Weve peeled back the layers of the Glass Onion with the hope of immersing old and new listeners into one of the most diverse and inspiring albums ever made.

買うのであればやはりデラックスエディションが良いかと思います。ただし初心者は通常盤で充分。今となっては全て名曲という括りにされるが、初めて聴いたときは変な曲多いなと言う印象だった。

CD3 “イーシャー・デモ”が1番の聴きどころ。リラックスしたアコースティックセッションで、特にジョンの名曲「ジェラス・ガイ」の原曲が聴けるのが嬉しい。CD4~6のアウトテイクには、「アンソロジー」シリーズを超えるような良いものは残っていない。ひとつの曲を完成させるのにたくさん時間をかけた、ということが実感としてよくわかるくらいだ。3枚組のデラックスエディションでも良かったのかもしれないが、ハードカバーのブックレットの素晴らしさを考えると、スーパーデラックスエディションを買った後悔は無い。

ギターと低音の強い「今風」のリマスターです。「今風」と書きましたが、これが本当に今の音楽風かというとやや疑問符が浮かばないでもないんですが、楽しめるか楽しめないかというと十分楽しめます。今風のサウンドではないかもしれないですが、今ビートルズの四人がこのアルバムを届けてくれたという、そんな雰囲気を楽しめる良アルバムです。モノバージョンのステレオ化という側面もあるので、その意味ではあれ？と思う箇所は多少あります。
