Product Description

Since 2007, HIpHopGrewUp founder Bavu Blakes got married, moved from Austin, Texas, to Los Angeles, started barbecuing every week, ran a half-marathon and had a son. More than 1,400 miles from his old accomplishments and comfort zone, Blakes wrote the SANCT EP -- produced entirely by Reggie Coby (dead prez, Devin the Dude) -- as an update to his musical supporters. For the record, it sounds fine and great! Besides the recording and production expenses, the SANCT EP was fully funded by Blakes and Coby's support base. This allowed the SANCT EP to be released with CD's, vinyl, 14x14-inch foldout posters, shirts, stickers, pins and more after raising more than $5000 in 30 days via Kickstarter. It all pretty much started in Austin, TX, where Bavu [ Kiswahili for 'force' ] got a broadcast journalism degree from the University of Texas, hosted Bavu's Revue on KAZI 88.7 FM and a TV show called Smooth, served as Urban Music Director of Music and Entertainment Television, rapped and sang on 15 vinyl records, performed at music festivals including Austin City Limits and South by Southwest, freelanced a bit for the Austin American-Statesman, taught an after-school program and kept busy. Literally a legend in the Texas underground scene, Bavu's studio collaborators include Grammy winning producers Symbolyc One (Kanye West/Beyonce/Jay-Z) and Adrian Quesada (Grupo Fantasma/Ocote Soul Sounds/Brownout/Echocentrics); blues guitarist/singer Gary Clark Jr. (Warner Bros.), who ?uestlove calls the future, and Houston rapper Paul Wall.
