Violinist Hilary Hahn is only 19 years old, but she's already made more tracks as a classical violinist than most other virtuosos who are twice her age. The prodigy has soloed with a number of prestigious orchestras across the globe, including the New York Philharmonic, and the Berlin and Los Angeles Philharmonics, and her accomplishments just keep getting more impressive.
This album marks a world-premiere recording of a violin concerto that was dedicated to her by composer and bassist Edgar Meyer. The concerto, which Meyer claims was written "with Hilary Hahn's singular voice in mind," caters to Hahn's superior technical expertise, allowing her an opportunity to excel at difficult jumps and awkward string-changing passages.
Also on the album is a recording of Samuel Barber's famous Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, which was born at Hahn's native Curtis Institute of Music. The work was originally commissioned by Curtis violinist Iso Briselli, and then relinquished to Barber after Briselli claimed the finale couldn't be played. Hahn proves every note is playable and important, as she flaunts her rich tone in the poetic first two movements to build intensity for the Presto in moto perpetuo, which she performs with striking precision.
