FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL'12への出演、ライブ会場限定『faraway girl EP』のリリース、プラネタリウム・ツアー全7公演ソールドアウトなど、めまぐるしい活動を展開するDE DE MOUSE。前作『A journey to freedom』から約2年半ぶり、4枚目となるフルアルバム『sky was dark』を、自身が立ち上げたレーベル“not records”の第1弾作品としてリリース。
本作のキーワードは「時間」。タイトル・曲順も含めてトータルで1つの物語として進んでいくという、今まで以上にコンセプトとストーリー性が突き詰められたモノとなっており、ブックレットにはアルバムの序章となる自身が書いた短編小説も封入されている。
アルバム・ジャケットは、本人が制作の根源と語る多摩ニュータウンを舞台にした、町並み・建物があらゆる形で合成された存在感のあるモノ。
