「形而上 流星」- A solid, safe, basic single ”A” tune, not too overwhelming for the general public.

「メランコリア」- A new dance tune. The mix is bit too sharp on the ear, stinging. With that going against it, it’s still a strong one.

「VICTIMS OF LOVE with 黒色すみれ」- a great disappointment, greeted with howling female vocals. Feels like an Addams Family parody of the original song.

Generally, though I did not like the remake of「VICTIMS OF LOVE」on it, this is a solid single, worth getting.

This single has surprised me- I pre-ordered it under the impression that it would end up being one of those pieces that I got just to fill out my BUCK-TICK collection, but ”LOVE PARADE” has become a song that I actively seek out to listen to often, and enjoy. The second song, ”STEPPERS -PARADE-” I do not like at all (it’s far too ”Classic Rock” style for my taste) and don’t allow it to play... but it was still worth getting this CD for the first song. I got the limited edition, which came with a live concert DVD, which is also great and viewed often, though I do not count that towards my review for the CD single itself, since it’s bonus material. (add a star to my rating if you count the bonus DVD) Recommended: you won’t be disappointed.

I purchased this Blu-Ray set as the limited edition, through FISH TANK (BUCK-TICK official fan club member).

As expected, it’s carefully whitewashed spin doctoring, trying as hard as it can to make the band appear ”respectable”, sterile, and droning work-a-day soulless worse than the average office worker, which any fan can tell you is far from the full story. Primarily shot from a roadie’s perspective, it even manages to make the concerts appear lacking spirit.

Fans will want to have this as a piece for their collection, but there’s not much of actual value in it.

I bought this one as the ”limited edition”, and love it. 100% solid BORN performance. I highly recommend it!

A very slick, professional production that’s censored needlessly in places. Sound quality is excellent, but the performance itself appears rather repressed and stoic, creating a technical but hollow and disappointing sound that doesn’t quite feel right. The sensation is as if the band doesn’t really want to be there that night. (I have a feeling that this may be due to the presence of the documentary movie crew, adding pressure and making it a less relaxed experience for them, but this is only a hypothesis) I didn’t like the album that this tour was for, so that does have an impact also on my overall impression, but generally, this one just does not work for me.

Originally I was not going to purchase this Blu-ray disc, because it’s mostly cover bands, not BUCK-TICK... and I don’t like cover bands. Cover bands are not BUCK-TICK.

Circumstances changed, and I did end up pre-ordering it, and it’s been a decent purchase, for odd reasons. I watched the cover bands once, because I paid for it (though likely I never will again- I skip over them), and the set list is disappointingly incomplete and repetitive when BUCK-TICK is actually on stage both days, playing a few of the songs I don’t like, and rather too heavily censored... but BUCK-TICK’s performances are still... very interesting.

Considering how little it cost, I have gotten my money’s worth out of it, and then some... though I must admit, it’s because I’ve spent the bulk of my time watching it in slow motion with the sound muted. LOL

Worth every yen, and more- VERY happy with my purchase.

This box set has hours and hours of classic concerts in HD audio, with special rare bonus footage. The greatest treat is the Sabbat 2012 RE:EDIT, where finally the band is visible (all the extra non-concert footage has been removed, and the performance is much less censored).

Avid fans will be entertained for ages with all the bits you’ve never been able to see before. I highly recommend it!

I was looking forward to my pre-ordered copy of this album to come in the mail after how good the original ”MISS TAKE” (song) was.... and when ”Yumemiru Uchuu” finally arrived, I was deeply disappointed. A few of the songs were so bad I had to skip over them.

The compositions feel rushed and passionless, just to put out something this year; the studio work was muddy (with the exception of ”夢路”, which was the only song that interested me in the album), and somehow even ”MISS TAKE” got the timing butchered. Generally the whole album is out of touch and dated, with a retro 70’s early 80’s rock influence. Heavy hints of old Bay City Rollers’s style. The presentation (contents, packaging) seems like a major downgrade from the quality and content of ”MISS TAKE”.

I’ve been struggling with what I was going to say for my HMV review now for over a week, because I just didn’t like it... and I am a passionate BUCK-TICK fan.

I haven’t gotten around to checking out the lyrics, but I’m hoping that those at least will be a redeeming factor... this is purely based on the sound and look of it. Wish I’d gotten it on iTunes and saved the money this time.

I ordered this back in April as a pre-order, and have been waiting for a long time for it to arrive... and it’s finally here! (outside Japan)

I am a BUCK-TICK fan, but I’m very choosy with what I listen to- I don’t agree with ”BUCK-TICK can do no wrong”- I prefer to be more objective. Each individual song of theirs I listen to, I approach as if it were the first time I’ve heard them as a band, and judge according to artistic merit. I feel that as artists, they deserve a firm and fair unbiased critique, and nothing less.

Which makes it a pleasure to be able to say honestly that this is one of the best singles they’ve put out in years. I’ve had ”MISS TAKE” stuck in my head since the first time hearing it on NicoNico Live- very memorable. They’ve managed to recapture the elusive spirit they’ve had before, that’s been missing from quite a bit of their work this past decade.

The second song, ”Only You” is not quite as good- it’s got a bit of the odd, jarring, geeky, goofy feel that they bring to their music sometimes. (much like the goofy anthem, ”Baby, I want you.”... reminiscent of Tom Jones’s weirdness, but fun if you’re in a playful mood. It makes me laugh into tears every time) But even so, I think that it has the potential to become a favorite for ”lives”... you just have to be in a strange mood to enjoy it to the fullest.

The third song- ”My Baby Japanese”- a re-do of one of their ”B” songs from the late 90’s, I was a bit worried about as well from the sound clips I’d heard online; but if you approach it as something new, not re-made, then it’s also got a special spark to it. (a bit of me cringes though, heartbroken that they got rid of the CyberPunk Breakbeat style which I’ve loved)

The PV that comes with this limited edition CD single set, ”MISS TAKE”, is much higher quality than their last one, ”Elise no Tame ni”, and very addictive... though the cinematography is still unflattering to the band most of the time. The high-contrast lighting with a bluish-cast is repellent, detracting from an otherwise attractive band. Terrible makeup- especially Sakurai’s: with his eyebrows missing for most of the video, he appears almost expressionless... which makes it harder to empathize with what he’s singing, and pulls you out of the video. (please, eyebrows! bring them back!)

The photo book that comes with this set is absolutely lovely- it could easily be published as a full-sized coffee table photo book on it’s own, and sell very well. Everyone looked great, but the photography was especially flattering for Toll. Excellent work.

Over all rating for the entire set: ”orgasmic”.

This limited edition CD single is definitely worth the money, and then some. Very, very pleased with this purchase!

”Climax Together”- Though not commonly mentioned, this live concert marked the band’s 5th anniversary. A superb performance utilizing stage space, lighting, choreography, and sound to it’s best.

Not connected to any specific tour, the closest album/tour you could compare it to would be ”This is Not greatest hits”, the remake album of some of their earlier works. The sound is highly reminiscent of the smooth, dark, jazzy style of ”Sting/The Police” from the 80’s.

Starting off with a decidedly esoteric note, the band’s veiled entrance to ”Jupiter” creates a benediction that opens a highly sensual, obsessive, energetic performance that ends all too soon.

Well worth the investment, and then some.

The first release for their new label ”Lingua Sounda”, ”エリーゼのために”, as a fan I waited eagerly for it’s arival, having ordering the limited edition in pre-order... and am dissapointed.

The ”A” track- ”エリーゼのために” (Elise no Tame ni”) is an Imai/Imai song (lyrics and composition) and the tune itself seems like a tribute to a few of their previous songs with not much original work to smooth it together. That slightly worn out disco-like sound from their last album, ”Razzle Dazzle” is back, giving it a dated feel, and nothing to really hook you in. Bland, and forgetable.

The second track- ”夢見る宇宙” (”Yume Miru Uchu”) could have been good, but the vocals track is processed with an unpleasant gurgling underwater filter, making the song hard to connect to. After listening to it the first time, my comment was: ”It’s not fantastic, but it might sound better live in concert, when they’re not messing up the vocals. I’m looking forward to seeing if it improves.”

The third track- a re-do of ”Sane” from their album ”Cosmos” was another disappointment- it’s lost it’s dark ambiance, leaning even heavier on special effects and a brighter, more assertive (and dated) sound to the brief interludes that contain Sakurai’s vocals.

The PV for ”エリーゼのために” is unflattering for all of them visually- poorly styled, awkwardly choreographed, and is filmed on an empty set that looks like it most likely was a hangar, like an indie band before signing. The lighting in combitnation with bad hair and makeup took them from attractive and dropped them into the realm of almost grotesque. I was stunned to see them launch their label with it... there’s just no ”cool factor” to it.

My over-all personal impression from this CD release is not positive: starting off with a weak ”A” that’s completely Imai’s work, moving to a song that has Sakurai’s vocals garbled, then following it up with an unneeded poor remake of a song that Imai does the majority of the the vocals for... it feels like it’s almost passive-aggressively become the Imai show, starring Imai, and Sakurai down-played and shoved into a corner with his vocals distorted and degraded by the sound engineer to make him look bad instead of being their vocalist/front man.

I’m giving this single a 2 star rating- I don’t dislike it so intensely to want to burn it, but I know that it’s going to be collecting dust, not listened to often.
