ビートルズを生んだリヴァプールと並び多くのミュージシャンを輩出したことで知られるイギリスの地方都市マンチェスター。そんなマンチェスター出身のアーティストの曲を集めたコンピレーション。ディスク1には1950年代のフォーク・リバイバル・ブームの中心人物だったイワン・マッコールの「ダーティ・オールド・タウン」で始まり、60年代のブリティッシュ・ビート時代を彩ったホリーズ、フレディ&ザ・ドリーマーズ、ハーマンズ・ハミッツ、ジョン・メイオール、ウェイン・フォンタナ&ザ・マインドベンダーズ、ジョージィ・フェイム&ザ・ブルー・フレイムズ、そして70年代はバークレイ・ジェームズ・ハーヴェスト、10ccなどの名曲を、ディスク2はパンク初期に登場したバズコックス、マガジン、フォール、そしてジョイ・デヴィジョン、ニュー・オーダーから始まるマッドチェスターと称されたストーン・ローゼズ、インスパイラル・カーペッツ、ハッピー・マンデーズといったアーティストに、元スミスのジョニー・マー、UKソウルを代表するバンドとなったシンプリー・レッド、ラストを飾るオアシスまで全45曲を収録。
