Product Description

Beethoven: Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61
Cadenzas by Alfred Schnittke

Gidon Kremer, violin
Academy of St Martin in the Fields / Sir Neville Marriner, conductor

Recorded: 12/1980

Gidon Kremer, one of the great violinists of our age, performs the Everest of violin concertos with the further enhancement of cadenzas by Alfred Schnittke, Kremer’s long-standing friend and musical partner. Schnittke provided cadenzas for the first movement and for lead-ins at appropriate points in the finale that take Beethoven’s material - as any cadenza should - and reflect it through a more modern, fragmentary prism. ( Newton Classics )
