商品説明

Woody Herman was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist and big band leader. He led various groups called “The Herd”. He came to prominence in the late 1930’s and was active until his death in 1987. His bands played music that was cutting edge and experimental for its time. They received numerous Grammy nominations and awards.
Children Of Lima was originally issued on Fantasy Records in 1975. It is now making its worldwide CD debut. The highlight of this album is the 18-minute track Variations On A Scene, recorded with the Huston Symphony Orchestra.

モダンジャズが依然としてジャズの主流であることに変わりはないが、それに至るまでの歴史の中には多くの重要なビッグバンドが存在した。とりわけウエストコースト・ジャズの誕生に貢献したバンドとしてスタン・ケントン楽団とこのウディ・ハーマン・バンドが注目を浴び、モダン時代になってから独り立ちして名を成したミュージシャンたちを追ってこの二つのバンドを聴く人は意外に多い。
