イギリスはオックスフォードにて学生 5人で結成されたバンド、オン・ア・フライデーがEMI傘下の 〈Parlophone〉 と契約し、バンド名をレディオヘッドに 改名。 1993年2月にリリースされた デビュー・アルバムが本作『Pablo Honey』である。本作のプロデュースを手掛けたのは、ダイナソーJr. やピク シーズとの仕事で知られるポール・ コールドリーとショーン・スレイド。 USオルタナティブロックのマナーと、 マガジン、ジョイ・ディヴィジョンらの ポストパンク的な実験精神、そしてザ・ スミスのようなリリシズムとイギリス的 ユーモアの融合こそが、 初期レディオ ヘッドの特徴であり、本作からは、他作 品にはない“パンク”な手触りを感じ ることができる。 その輝かしいキャリア の出発点にして、今なお絶大な人気を 誇る名曲「Creep」 他全12曲を収録。
