「静寂の嵐」は４人編成になったジェネシスの２枚目です。 前作「A Trick of the Tail」と比較すると、プログレ曲は 相変わらずスリリングですが、明るい曲調になっています。 また牧歌的な雰囲気が消えて、バラード調の曲が増えました。 こうした路線は、人気作「Duke」へつながっていると思います。 なお、私は甘いバラードはあまりすきではありませんが、 「One for the Vine」は長尺でプログレ感があり、「Afterglow」 も好きです（歌詞はわかりませんが）。 演奏面では、ますますトニー・バンクスのキーボードが前面に 出ました。ただし、スティーブ・ハケットのギターが 「…In That Quiet Earth」で流れるようなソロを見せています。
