エラ・フィッツジェラルドソングブック・アルバム2作目。史上最高のヴォーカル・ジャズ・アルバムのひとつと評される作品『コール・ポーター・ソングブック』のリリースから3ヵ月後、エラとアレンジャー兼指揮者のバディ・ブレグマンが本作のセッションの制作を開始。前作同様、メイナード・ファーガソン（トランペット）、ミルト・バーンハート（トロンボーン）、ハーブ・ゲラー、テッド・ナッシュ、バド・シャンク（リード）、バーニー・ケッセル（ギター）、アルヴィン・ストーラー（ドラム）等、西海岸の精鋭セッションミュージシャンたちが参加しており、その多くは、ほぼ同時期に同スタジオでフランク・シナトラの録音にも参加していた。このアルバムには、誰もが知っているお馴染みスタンダード曲が多々収録されているが、エラの手にかかると、これらの曲はさらに特別なものになる。特に「There's a Small Hotel」、「You Took Advantage of Me」、そして不朽の名曲「My Funny Valentine」が際立っている。
