Duke Ellington

　エドワード・ケネディ・エリントンは、1899年4月29日、昭和天皇に2歳先んじてワシントンD.C.に生まれている。ホワイトハウスの黒人執事だったという黒人上層階級に属するエりントンの家庭環境は、“Duke”というあだ名が示しているような雰囲気を持っていたのだろう。　デュークは、7歳でピアノをはじめ10代に入ると作曲に取り組んでいる。そして、ほかの多くのミュージシャンと同じ、18歳で音楽を目指して
