Performer: Gautier Capuon, Frank Braley This collection of works for cello and piano, with Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata as it's centrepiece, sees Gautier Capuon and Frank Braley paying tribute to two towering musicians of the 20th century, Mstislav Rostropovich and Benjamin Britten. Capuon and Braley give superb performances of these works, which are representative of the composers' oeuvre. The recorded sound is close, but not at all claustrophobic, with sufficient space around the instruments. In addition to Capuon's note there is a good discussion of the works. One anomaly in the listing of the pieces is that Schubert's sonata is given as in A major rather than A minor. All the references I have seen have it in the minor key in which it begins.
