シューマンの「子供のためのアルバム」は、数々のピアノ作品を遺したシューマンの作品の中でもとりわけ異彩を放つものである。自分の愛娘のピアノ練習のために作曲しただけあって、第１部、第２部のそれぞれを構成する楽曲に、具体的な表題が付されているのが特徴であり、旋律も愛らしくて実に親しみやすい。第１部と第２部の間に、幼い子供と年上の子供というように、年齢に応じた差をつけている点も、いかにも自らの愛娘姉妹のためのアルバムといった趣きである。江崎昌子は、前作のブルグミュラーの練習曲もそうであったが、このような練習用の曲に大いなる価値を見出しているようだ。本盤のライナーノーツには、江崎昌子による各曲の説明が載っているが、これらを見ながら聴くと、江崎昌子の本作品への深い愛着や理解がよくわかる。要するに、江崎昌子は、例えばショパンのマズルカ集などの一流の芸術作品に接するのと同じような真摯な姿勢で、シューマンの子供用の練習曲にも接しているのである。練習用の曲を決して蔑にせずに取り組んでいくその真摯な姿勢は、大いに評価してもいいのではなかろうか。演奏も、シューマンの愛娘に対する深い愛情が伝わってくるような温かいぬくもりのある名演と評価したい。ＳＡＣＤによる高音質録音も実に鮮明で素晴らしい。
